Bears vs. Packers: Pre-game Blog Show
Oh, and if the Bears do win by some miracle tonight, it's because the Packers suck.

TNG Update
Channeling Bridget Jones again. OK I'm reading the next book, Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason which is good just like the last one was. I don't know if there will be any more books, but the movie version of this comes out next year. The first DVD is going on my Christmas/Birthday list this year. I just love that movie!
Anyway, back to TNG. So let's see, I told you he came over for lunch on Friday to cheer me up. We met later that day for dinner at Friday's with my friend, Christine, who said she thought he was very nice. Dinner was good, and then we went to watch Once Upon A Time In Mexico. OK this movie is getting fairly good reviews and it had a couple of cute guys in it so heck we figured why not. I don't know if you need to have watched the first two movies in this trilogy or what, but I just didn't get it. I heard that it was a stand alone type deal and you didn't need to have watched the first two. That's what I'd heard. But I had a hard time following it. Who was shooting who and why and who was double crossing who and what side they were on. Very lost. Christine has Desperado on DVD and perhaps I'll rent El Mariachi which apparently doesn't even have Antonio Banderas in it. WTF. Returning again to TNG. Can you tell I get off on tangents? Going over there this afternoon, we're going to watch the Cubs games, maybe rent a movie. He does want me to stay over tonight. I'm not sure about that. Not because I wouldn't mind staying over, but because I have to work tomorrow and I doubt I'll get much sleep. ;) And I'd worry about my Hobbs being all by himself for two days. I don't know yet.

CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!
Mabon
Also, I'm sad to report that I turned the furnace on. It's about 52 degrees right now, which isn't too bad, but at night it's been getting cold. It's running right now, getting all the dust off of it, and I've got the windows open to accommodate that. OK now I know some of you live in warmer regions and probably don't know a furnace from a block heater. But when you turn it on for the first time in the fall, leaving the windows open for awhile is ideal because the furnace has to burn off all that dust from the summer. And it smells. Big time. So you open up the windows to air the place out. And just in case you're wondering "What the heck is a block heater???" Some cars up here can come with a "cold weather package" and a block heater is something that warms up the engine block. Usually you plug the car up over night to turn the heater on and it makes it a lot easier to start the car in the morning. I wish my car had one. Doh!

Hobbs Photo Album.
Just in case you can't get enough of the cutest kitty in the world!!!
A Picture of My Man
Yes, my baby kitty. Isn't he so cute? I just wuv him so much. Yep, that's TNG holding him. Oh, you wanted to see a pic of him too? Well, there's his legs. Hobbsy isn't normally so squinty-eyed, it's just the flash was getting to him. I guess he's just not used to it. :) I have more pics of Hobbs. I'll post them somewhere to an album or something and let y'all take a gander.

Second Date: Report
Oh, I almost forgot. Hobbs, just LOVED TNG, which I think is a fabulous sign!
Welcome to overactive imagination theater

The Date: A Report
Bottom line on top: We had a fabulous time and we're going out again tomorrow.
More in depth story: TNG was already at the theater when I pulled up. He recognized me immediately and met me at the curb. He had brought me a gift! He even wrapped it! Impressive. I opened it up and it is a figurine of a dragon. I love dragons, so this was the perfect thing for me. :) We walked it back to the car and headed into the theater. We were quite early for the movie, so we had decided beforehand to hang out and chat before it started. So we got our popcorn and talked. And talked and talked and talked. He had told me he was shy and not always talkative, but he's a good talker and a good listener. The time from when we sat down to when we went to the movie just flew by! We went to the theater and found our seats. Chatted through the "pre-show entertainment" aka trivia and commercials, and then watched the trailers. He leaned over and asked if I needed more pop or anything, which I thought was super sweet, but I was fine. The movie was, um, well, it wasn't the worst movie I ever saw, but I'm not going to be buying the DVD. :) It was Underworld, in case you're wondering. After the movie we went to Outback for dinner. Yum! I love Outback. More talking. Great company, great food. All-in-all, it was a great date. Have you ever met someone for the first time and felt like you recognize them? And after talking with them for awhile, you feel like you've known them forever? I've had that happen with friends, but never with someone I was interested in romantically. Until last night that is. TNG is just wonderful. Oh, and Laura, he's coming to your Halloween party.

Current Mood: Freaking Out
OK OK OK. Deep. Calming. Breaths. In through the nose, out through the mouth. Oh wait, or is it the other way around? Hmmm. Better do both just to be sure. Oh crap. I snagged my new shirt when I was combing my hair. ACK!!! OK, I was able to cut the snag off. All is better now. OH, except that my nose is producing skin flakes. Dammit! I exfoliated AND moisturized this morning so this would not happen. Why me????
OK OK OK. Deep. Calming. Breaths. Fuck, where can I get the Deep Calming Vodka? BTW - the new Blogger spell check on this puppy does not have Fuck on it. Pressing the "Learn" button... Oh jeez it didn't have "Blogger" in it either. Way to go, Pyra developers!
It's a great day for a white... refrigerator
So let's see:
- Wearing new top - check
- Wearing new jeans - check
- Underwear clean - check
- Hair brushed - check
- face cleaned - check
- teeth brushed - check (and got poppy seed out that escaped this morning and I didn't see until my drive into work, sneaky little buggers)
- Nails clean - check
- Stick foundation/powder combo in purse in case of touchups - check
- Lip gloss in purse - check
- Comb in purse for after work/pre-date grooming - check
- Legs shaved - um, no, didn't. you know why
- Cell phone charged in case of strange malady of car break-down event so can call AAA - check
OK here's the thing. I was up at 5:30 this morning. And being at work all day, I won't be able to take a nap. So, I'm hoping that the shear excitement of being on a first date will allow me to remain awake and alert through the evening. I don't want to end it early just because I'm a wuss who needs to go to sleep. OK I just took my Women's One A Day vitamin, that should keep me going.
Here's something interesting. I think I've more than expressed my hatred for cleaning in this blog. This morning I decided to quickly clean off the kitchen counter b/c it was looking not so hot and it needed to be done. So I warmed up the water, got out a dish rag, grabbed the Comet, and went to work. Did a fab job. Then, I thought that maybe the Comet would work well on the outside of the fridge. I have a white fridge. Over the years the front of it has accumulated dirty finger prints, smudges, the like. I haven't been able to get these up completely using conventional methods. But would you know that a bit of Comet and some elbow grease did the trick. Sure did. Now my fridge is white again. I'm so impressed with myself. Granted someone with better cleaning intuition probably would have figured that out awhile ago or wouldn't have let the fridge come to that state in the first place, but as this is me we're talking about, I think I'm going to bask in my wonderful Martha Stewart-ness for awhile. Perhaps I will call up Better Homes & Gardens so they can feature me. I'm sure they'll want to hear my story.
The Friday Five
- Who is your favorite singer/musician? Why?
Steven Page of the Barenaked Ladies. Because he's adorable, sings for my favorite band, and has a fabulous voice.
- What one singer/musician can you not stand? Why?
Jewel. Because she's annoying.
- If your favorite singer wasn't in the music business, do you think you would still like him/her as a person?
Of course!
- Have you been to any concerts? If yes, who put on the best show?
Hands down, Barenaked Ladies concerts are the best. They are very energetic and entertaining. Lots of fun. If you've never been to one, I suggest catching them when they go on tour again soon.
- What are your thoughts on downloading free music online vs. purchasing albums? Do you feel the RIAA is right in its pursuit to stop people from downloading free music?
Me, personally, songs that I downloaded are not from albums that I would be likely to buy. So either I would never have the song, or I'd download it. Either way, I wouldn't purchase it. Some songs I might download that I already have on CD but just use as a convenience factor for it being on my PC. Either way, the RIAA isn't losing any money. Oh, I mean the record labels. Oh, I mean the artists. Yeah, that's it. I think that the RIAA is right to an extent, if someone is downloading songs, burning them to CD, and then selling those CDs, yeah, that's wrong. But to go after a 12 year old for downloading some songs is flat out stupid. I think the RIAA has screwed themselves and the record industry and you get what you deserve.

TNG Vicarious Update
Now here's a question. Enterprise will be on tonight so I'll have an evening of TV watching and all. Thinking about giving myself a little self manicure. Don't get carried away now, when I say "manicure" I mean make sure I clean underneath the nails, make them smooth, get rid of the hang nails, and maybe put on a layer of nail strengthener. Nothing fancy. I hate chipped nail polish, and I'm bad at putting it on in the first place. With clear polish, if you screw up, no one can tell! I also have a pedicure set that I got from Mary Kay a few years back. Hmmm. Perhaps will be a nice little self-pampering session tonight? We shall see. I am getting a hair cut tomorrow night. Not so much for the date as that I REALLY need a trim. I've got split ends and haven't been in what seems like ages. Becky, my stylist, probably has forgotten what I look like. Oh, how nice it will be to have someone else wash this mane for once!!

It rolls down stairs, rolls over in pairs, rolls over the neighbor's dog, it's great for a snack, it fits on your back, it's BLOG BLOG BLOG
I am a bit sleepy still, but for a good reason. Had my very first "chat" with TNG last night. :) He IMed me somewhere around quarter to 7 and we chatted til after 8. He was worried that I was going to post the text of the IM to my blog and was trying very hard to spell everything correctly. Well I'm not that mean!!! That's a lie, I am that mean, well, I can be that mean, but I have to be really ticked off to want to be that mean. So I'm not going to do that. :) After about an hour chatting we started playing truth or dare. Get your minds out of the gutter you filthy little freaks!!!!! Nothing like that! And I don't have a webcam, so there! Ha! I chose dare and he "dared" me to go to the movies with him this weekend. Well it's not like I had a choice, I couldn't back down from a dare, now could I? So we're going to go see Underworld on Friday. I then suggested that it might be easier to plan this via phone. So we chatted on the phone til about midnight. Didn't get all the details nailed down, but it was nice to talk with him. :)
My cat on the other hand... the cat always comes in to play, have you noticed that? When I was on the phone with TNG, Hobbs was sitting next to me, purring, cuddling up next to me, being a sweet little boy. And then I get off the phone and go to bed. And where is the furry little freak? Where? In the kitchen playing with one of his mouse toys and creating a ruckus. Apparently I didn't get the memo that "bedtime" is now "playtime". My bad. I was so tired that I eventually fell asleep anyway. Hobbs must have given up because he was curled up next to me when I woke up this morning.
Oh, and Happy Birthday to Gail today!!! I'm having lunch with her and Christine at 12 at Chili's. Should be a grand ole time.

Cats go to sleep when they are tired and get up when they are not. We do it the exact opposite.
Saturday I went over to my friend, Lori's house. Lori has two iddy biddy widdle 6 week old kittens!!! Oh, they are SOOOO cute! Both females, Moonshadow and Mariah. Moonie fell asleep in my arms twice. She's such a little doll. So is her sister. They are just precious. And so tiny. Widdle ears and widdle paws. Widdle noses. Awww Makes you want to go into baby talk mode. Der jus so pweciush! Me wans to take dem home and wuv dem fo-evah. Good thing Hobbs isn't the jealous type. He is a weirdo though. My entertainment center is woefully empty now that the ex roommate took his stereo out of it. My stereo is way to big to fit in there. Mental note: Put "stereo" on Birthday/Christmas list. So there's just an empty space behind the glass doors. However, there is a cutout part at the back of the thing and of course Hobbs has found that this is a perfect place to sit. Cat under glass. Isn't he cute. The first time he did this I started laughing so hard. It was just so hysterical, the cat part of the entertainment center. Hmm. Wonder if I hook up my DVD up to him if I could get surround sound. I'll have to look in to that. Times like those I wish I had a digital camera. I was going to run for the camera but I knew that as soon as I found it and brought it back that he would have gotten out of it. But he's done it once more since then so perhaps I can catch him in there again. Silly widdle kitty cat.

OK I'm better now
I was just visiting my friends, Ren & Jason's site. They are getting married in March, in Orlando, FL. I hope to be able to go. For shits and giggles I was checking out room rates at hotels near where they're getting married. One they listed was the Comfort Suites. Room rate isn't too bad, for a weekend rate in that town. For a few dollars more a night, I can get a room with a whirlpool bath. Hmmm. Tempting. Probably won't though, I can get a better rate at the LaQuinta and Holiday Inn though. Oh well I'm not ready to book yet anyway. I hope to be able to afford to go and to see some other friends who live in the area while I'm there. Wishing and hoping, planning and dreaming...
Whiiiiiiiinnnnnneeeeee
In other news... still don't have a nick for "the new guy" may just call him "the new guy" TNG. Hmmm. Also means "The Next Generation" as in Star Trek. Perhaps that will work. Yes, I like it. Ha! Now I get a seat at table one at the wedding. Neener neener neener. Since I'll be at the head table anyway, perhaps I'll just auction it off on eBay. :) Anyway, my point is that he lives really close. Round Lake Beach to be exact. That's good commuting distance. Someone put a tick mark in the pro column, would ya?
Oh my Gods I can't even fart without it hurting my back. And now my stupid carpel tunnel is acting up and making my wrist numb so I'll have to stop typing. *insert temper tantrum here*

Return of the Nipples
'Bother!' said Pooh, as he uncovered a hive of Smurfs
Purse shopping, is not easy. I'm very picky about purses. It has to be the right size, the right color, and the right material. I want to go back to leather. And I want a cell phone pocket. I didn't find anything I really liked though. :( The search continues! Gurnee Mills has a lot of shoe stores and those usually carry purses, so perhaps I will check there.
Twenty minutes before my appointment was to start at Lenscrafters, bored out of my mind, I decided to see if I could get in a bit early. They did let me go in and it only took four times to do that stupid air puff Glaucoma test. I hate that. My eyes didn't change too much, and I don't need new glasses. Yay!! I did have to have a dilation test. I hate those. They put this stuff in your eyes that, you guessed it, dilates them, and then the fuckwits go and take a close-up flash photography picture of your eye. Yeah, that won't hurt at all. Nor will it make you go blind!!! Riiiigggghhhhttt. Bastards. Oh well so my eyes were fine and I finally got out of there, just in time to hit traffic going back north. Before I left the mall though I went across the hall to get a bottle of water out of the vending machine. I plunk in my dollar and press one of the many water buttons. (Since that was my only option at this machine) Out pops my water bottle. Then I hear a rumble in the machine. Hopeful that this was a two-fer type day I waited. And sure enough, another water bottle popped out!!! If there had been someone by the machine obviously dejected due to getting screwed by said machine, I would have happily given that to them. But no one else was around. And since I've gotten screwed by the machines more than once and have to take what's due to me when I can, I took the extra water. Two bottles for the price of one. Sweet. Twas my lucky day!
However, it then took forever to get home. It was raining by then and of course every moron with a car forgets how to drive in the rain, every single time it rains. Hello people, we don't live in the desert, it rains all the freaking time!!! Ugh.
Finally made it home, relaxed again for a bit, then picked up Christine again, this time at her home, and we went to a Tastefully Simple party. Sampled some very yummy food and I bought a bread mix. The non-cook that I am was impressed that all I have to do with this bread is poor a can of beer in it, mix for 30 seconds, and put it in the oven. I think I can handle that. I hope I can at least. Of course, Laura saw fit to dump her tray of samples all over her lap. That was quite entertaining. Laugh and the world laughs with you. Get on top of a clock tower with a rifle and the world ducks. :)
As I said in my comments on yesterday's post, "the new guy" did respond. :) In fact, he sent me two emails! The second was to tell me he found this here blog. Uh oh. Now he knows how crazy I am. Or will if he ever reads some of the archives. :) Anyway, he said it will take more to scare him off. Darn. A hard one. Am I up to the challenge? Time will tell! I must come up with some sort of nickname for this gentleman. If he's to stay around anyway. He has the same name as another friend of mine and using his real name could get confusing and I want to conceal his identity if I ever have to make some sort of disparaging remarks in the future. :) I've been in Corporate America too long - CYA is too far ingrained. So... if you have suggestions for nicknames for "the new guy" please post in the comments section. Something short, funny, and preferably usable as an acronym would be ideal. The winner will get... um, well, uh, the winner can sit at table one at the wedding, how's that? OK, I know I'll scare him off LONG before then, esp if he reads that sentence, so I don't have to worry about keeping that promise. :)

Gosh, I'm so broken up over losing Cyberweirdo. How will I ever find a man in my life that can even hold a candle (without wanting to drip the hot wax on me) to Cyberweirdo? Life is so cruel.
In other online dating news, I did actually meet someone via online personals who is actually interesting. He can hold a conversation, via email so far anyway, and has fairly good spelling skills. I don't ask for perfection, but it is nice not to have to re-read an email four times to figure out if it's English the person is speaking. :) However, last I emailed him was Thursday. That would be yesterday for those of you reading this a week late. Haven't heard back from him. So while he seemed interesting and funny and all that, I'm sure I managed to scare him off SOME how! It's one of those talents I have. He probably found my blog and figured I was a total freak. LOL
Searching... Searching...
"blood canticle" review This one I kind of get. I'm a big Anne Rice Fan, and Blood Canticle is her new book due out next month.
"a nude pic of myself" What? Oh, I think I might have said something like that to attract more readers. Don't worry folks, I haven't gotten that desperate -- yet.
1997 Nissan Sentra idiot light I know I've mentioned my 97 Nissan Sentra, and I talk about idiots ALL the time. But c'mon, when have I ever mentioned lights?
The Friday Five
- Is the name you have now the same name that's on your birth certificate? If not, what's changed?
Yep, it's the same. Unmarried spinster. :)
- If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be?
My name has become part of my personality, I wouldn't change it. I hated it when I was a kid - I could never get a magnet or barrettes with my name on it, but now I think it's unique. My middle name I never cared for, but it was my mom's, so I'd like to keep it now. As for my last name, I'm less attached to that, and will probably change it if I ever get married. Hey, hope springs eternal!
- Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?)
There is a story behind it. My parents had a boys named picked out for their first child but hadn't yet found one for a girl. My father suggested stuff like "Star" or "Nova" it was the 70s afterall. My mom 86'd all of those. After I was born my dad offered my mom three choices - all witches names. Samantha, Tabatha, or Sabrina. My mom didn't want people calling me Sammy or Tabby so she picked Sabrina. (and now some people annoyingly call me Sabby) Bottom line, I was named after a cartoon witch.
- Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why?
I don't want kids. But I do have names that I really like for kids. For a boy, I like Declan, which is Irish, and for a girl, I like Morgaine, which is Welsh. Morgaine I got from Marion Zimmer Bradley's book, Mists of Avalon. I'm partial to Irish, British, and Welsh names. When I get around to picking my SCA name, it will be one of those three.
- Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com accurate? How or how isn't it?
It is.
The name of Sabrina creates a friendly, sociable, charming nature, but causes you to be too easily influenced by others. While you find it easy to meet and mix, and can appear agreeable and compromising in conversation, you can become dogmatic and forceful if pressed too far. Others learn that you cannot be told what to do and you seldom change your mind once it is made up. You prefer situations that allow a degree of independence, but are reluctant to take on a demanding work-load or responsibility. In a position dealing with the public, you could do well because of your friendly personality, interest in people, and desire to please. When asked, you are able to give others good advice that you would probably not follow yourself, but must guard against being too opinionated in controversial matters.
Hmm. This is kind of odd because it says "too easily influenced by others" but then it says "Others learn that you cannot be told what to do" which is conveniently contradictory. Makes me think this site is all bunk.

September 11, 2001
The weather on September 11, 2001 was very similar here in Chicago as it was in New York. Sunny, warm, a beautiful day. That sort of weather isn't unusual this time of year, but we know those nice days are numbered and we try to appreciate them when they come along. I parked at the train station like I do every day, paid my parking fee, and walked up to the tracks. I remember very distinctly a plane flying over the station. And it seemed to be flying pretty low. We're not close enough to O'Hare for that plane to have been so low, so I don't know what was going on. I suppose it wasn't an airliner, it didn't make as much noise, but it still seemed to be flying lower than normal. I thought it was odd and continued to wait for the train. That was around 7:00 am, central, 8:00 am eastern, or New York time. This would be about the time that the hijackers were boarding the planes. The half hour train ride was the same as usual. As was the shuttle bus ride to work. I remember when I came in to the building that a security guard was checking IDs. Later that day I thought that maybe it was because of what happened, but that was around 7:45 am and the first plane would have just hit. There's no way our security could have known about it, so it must have just been a random check day.
As was my usual routine, I went to the cafe, got a bagel and headed to my desk. As I was logging in and eating my bagel I overheard some people talking about a plane crash. Crass as it may sound, plane crashes, while big news, happen every now and then, and it's nothing to rush to a TV set over unless you know someone flying that day. So I went on with my breakfast and logging in. Upon getting into the system, I read my email and tried to log in to Yahoo to read my personal account. The internet connection was incredibly slow. I figured it was just one of those slow system days and didn't think much of it. By then others were talking about the plane crash. I heard someone mention a plane hit the World Trade Center in New York. Then I heard that two had hit. This was just after 8:00 am Chicago time, the second plane hit at 8:03 Chicago time. Not knowing exactly what happened, I assumed it was an accident. I figured two commuter plane bounced off each other and hit the towers. It wasn't unheard of. Two similar planes had crashed into a hospital in this area a couple of years ago. One of them piloted by Chicago Radio Host, Bob Collins. I thought this thing in New York was terrible, but certainly nothing to be overly concerned about.
More and more people were talking about the plane crash at work. At the time the office I was in was an open-space cube farm. Voices carry, but not so much that you hear absolutely every conversation. A lot of people were crowding around one desk. Someone had managed to get to a news website and was reading aloud the article which contained a picture of the huge fireball enveloping one of the towers. Even seeing this picture, I still didn't get it. I still did not realize exactly what happened. But everyone was standing around. Our IS department shut down internet access because the servers could not handle it. Those that had radios at their desks turned them on. People crowded around to hear what was happening. Then I got the full story.
Two planes, large airliners, 757 type deals had crashed into the Twin Towers. "Was it an accident?" I asked, thinking that something had gone wrong on take off or landing and two airplanes had hit the buildings. "No, it was done on purpose. One plane it, then another about 15 minutes later. Full speed." My stomach knotted. "Start praying" someone said. What the hell was going on? More news. The Pentagon had been hit with an airliner too. The Pentagon. Something was up. Three planes made it glaringly obvious this was not an accident. A report came in that another plane had crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. There were reports about bombs going off in Washington DC. Downtown Chicago was evacuated. Offices at our company in downtown areas of major cities were evacuated. Our NY offices were not in the WTC, thankfully, but clients were. Things started shutting down. Malls. Museums. Government offices. Metra, our train service to the suburbs started running extra trains out of the city. As soon as they were full they would go. No schedule, just fill and go. Traffic was backed up. People were allowed to go home early if they wanted. Some did. Some didn't want to. Some didn't feel safe, others felt there was no where to be safe. I stayed. Partially because I had no way of getting back to the train station until the shuttle came that evening. Not much work was done that day. Meetings and training classes were cancelled. People tried to work after awhile but didn't get much accomplished. One thing I remember very distinctly is the sound of the hum of AM radios playing everywhere. I'll always remember that hum, and it will always remind me of that day. It was everywhere at work. Every hall you went down, even parts of the building that had offices instead of cubes, the hum was there.
The train ride home was quiet. We talked on the shuttle bus but most people were just shocked senseless. No one knew how to react. Most people didn't know anyone in the areas affected, but you never knew. People I think were just trying to stay calm. I got home and flipped on the news. For the first time I saw the pictures of what happened. The tapes of filming live the second tower being hit. The tapes of both towers collapsing. I had heard about this at work, but could not imagine in a million years what it looked like. Everyone said it was like a movie. It was. A war zone. This couldn't be New York, this couldn't be America, not and still be real life. It looked like something out of a Futuristic Apocalypse movie. It couldn't be happening. But it was. I watched TV that night just being shock. Numbed. I couldn't turn away from the coverage. I felt that I needed to see what was happening. I had to know all the details. It's just how I deal with this sort of thing. History is happening and I want to know as much as possible. The news was reporting about the people who had died, the thousands that were missing. The worry that there was more to come. There was a report that a bomb was in the Empire State building. That turned out not to be true. But that day was so surreal, so scary, anything was possible. Nightmares came to life and walked the Earth. Nothing was impossible.
It was not until two days later that the scope of the event hit me, and hit hard. It was evening, and I was watching the round-the-clock news coverage. I simply could not take my eyes away. I felt a compulsion to watch it. And watch I did. One channel, I don't remember which, was talking to some people who had missing loved ones. There were posters and posters of people missing all over the city, near the WTC and in other spots. I think someone collected some posters for a museum exhibit. I know there are pictures out there. Anyway, the show was interviewing this one guy in particular. His new wife or fiance was missing. He was so distraught. He wasn't alone in his pain but yet he was alone. He had lost the love of his life. He didn't know if she was lying in a hospital somewhere with a Jane Doe on her sheet or if she was dead. Most likely it was the latter. Yet he had hope. All of those people had hope. There was nothing left to cling to, nothing more they had left but hope. That's when it hit me. It's easy to think of casualties as just a number. More than two thousand people died that day. But if you think of it as just a number, then that's all it is. It's not until it sinks in that you realize that more than two thousand lives were affected. Two thousand families. Those people had kids, parents, sisters, brothers, and friends. Those people were MY age! I think that was the scariest part of all. This was a tremendous blow to my generation. Many, many of the people that died were "Generation X" mid twenties to late thirties or so. Not all, but most. It could have easily been a friend of mine, a relative, or me myself. Realizing all this I broke down, and for the first time cried over the events. I sobbed. Uncontrollable. I didn't know any of these people. I wasn't related, I wasn't even directly affected. My my fellow humans were, they were people too, in my age group especially. The grief was undescribable. This was not only a horrible thing done to humanity, and to America, it was a horrible thing done to people my own age. People with the same hopes and dreams as me. People who wanted to make something of themselves, make their parents proud, be the best person they could be. They were going about their every day lives. And now that was over.
September 11 will always be with me, just like it will be with every American. I can't imagine how it will be to describe the events of that day to a younger generation. To those that weren't born yet, or too young to remember what happened. I'm sure it won't be as horrible for them, just at Pearl Harbor never seemed as horrible to me. It does now. I wish I hadn't gotten the reminder. And I hope generations to come never get one either.

Taking the Good with the Bad
"Do you really care about the dog?" he asks. Panic and worry immediately set in. My stomach ties into a knot and the spot that I'm half way convinced is developing an ulcer pangs a little bit. What's wrong with the dog, I wonder.
"Of course I do," I tell him, "Why?"
"I need to move out. My parents told me I have to go. I have until Sunday, so I need to find her a new home, or I have to put her down." More panic. More worry. Raven is my baby. I love that dog. I just can't take care of her.
I told him I'd help. I would try to find a home for Raven. She's the sweetest dog. Sure, she's not always bright, and she should have been trained better, but I love her. She's my puppy. If I could take her back, I would. I don't want her to be put down or in a home that wouldn't take care of her. Just thinking about those sad eyes breaks my heart. I don't know what to do.
09/11/2003 10:24 AM UPDATE: Jason may be able to keep Raven. A friend of him has offered to allow him to rent out her house since she is not living there. The house is small, but has a large fenced in back yard and dog house. Nothing is final yet, but I'm hoping it will work out. Keep your fingers crossed!!

"You know when you're in a group and you've got a brainstorm, but when you're by yourself it's more like a spring shower?"
Buh-dump-bum. OK I thought it was funny. Guess you had to be there. (here)

Kids
I do have a point to this post. It may not seem like it, but I do. And that is, while I'm not a big fan of kids, and while I don't want any, I certainly don't want to see one hurt. Kids are people too, after all. Many, many go missing every year. Not all are taken by strangers. One in particular is named Sabrina. Below is a picture and a link to the website her father has set up to help in her recovery. Spread the word to help bring Sabrina home.

A Wedding Report
The wedding was nice, at a nice place in Arlington Heights, which I had no problem finding, despite not knowing the area very well. The ceremony was short (that's the best kind) :) and the food was good. However, I must note that low cut dress + Sabrina = Beef sauce on bra. Yes, that's right. Of all the clothing I've dripped food on, my bras had thus far escaped that fate. Until last night. I don't know how I did it, I guess some of the sauce dripped while I was eating, and sure enough, went straight down my dress. Well that's how you get the twins bigger you know, you have to feed them. The beef was good, as was the twice-baked potato. I had been hoping for a twice-baked potato all week. I don't know how to make them, though I have never actually tried. I have tried the frozen Ore Ida kind, but those just don't taste the same. So I was happy. And I had fun. Did the chicken dance. Did the hokey pokey. And Gail's two younger brothers forced me into slow dancing. I hate dancing. I'm just uncomfortable doing it. I don't know why. Sometimes when I'm in the right mood, I'll dance, but that's rare. I must say though, it is a bit disconcerting that two boys that used to be dorky and shorter than you are now tall and good-looking. Neither my type, including being younger, and attached, but still, not hard on the eyes either. Very disconcerting. Little brothers aren't supposed to do that. They're supposed to stay short and dorky. Those probably weren't Gail's brothers. She probably hired two guys to act as her brothers. Yes, that must be it. Phew.
Give me a second to hike up my skirt so I can jump on THAT bandwagon...

New Template
The weekend plans of a wild and crazy single gal
Tomorrow evening I actually have plans! My friend, Gail, is getting married. So, I'm schlepping myself down to Arlington Heights to attend. I think I'm going to wear my blue flower dress. If it fits still. I should probably figure that out tonight.
The only other thing planned for this weekend is cleaning. Getting the house back to order as I like it. I hate cleaning. But now there's less stuff to clean so perhaps it won't be so bad. Yeah right. Maybe monkeys will fly out of me arse.

It's Done!
My grandmother, who owns my house, is happy he's gone. She said that I don't have to worry about rent until I'm "caught up" and whatnot. That's nice, since I'm already two months behind. I hope to pay her back the total though. I don't want to be a freeloader. I also have to get the house back into some semblance of order. I want to get it to the way I like it, not the way he liked it or the way we compromised on it, but the way I like it. Part of that means putting the cat dish and box down on the floor since the dog won't be getting to either of them any more. Wheee! I also think I'm going to move the kitchen table. But I haven't decided yet. I guess it also depends on what my dad wants to do to the house and when.
Oh, and... I still haven't gotten an answer on this template being "invalid" yet. I may change the template again. It's a hassle but I found one I like. For now...

Ruby Tuesday
My father is talking about doing some "work" on my house now. Work = remodeling. I'm not talking taking walls out and making stuff bigger, though I wouldn't cry over a larger bathroom, but putting up insulation and drywall instead of the paint-absorbing paneling I have now. Yes, you read that right, my house isn't insulated. I suppose if you live in southern reaches of the country this wouldn't matter, it's warm in winter there. Not here. But in the summer it's also hot and insulation keeps the a/c in as well. I just hate living in all that sawdust and drywall dust. Ick. And then there's painting. I hate painting. There are worse things though. Like moving. Or pap smears. If I could afford it, I'd pay someone else to paint. Alas, I am broke. I hope he lets me pick out the color though. White is fine for a kitchen or a bathroom but I don't want to feel like I'm living in a hospital.
In dating news... not much to report. There was a profile on Yahoo Personals that looked interesting, so I sent him an icebreaker. If you're not familiar with that, it's a free quick email that is sent to someone to let them know you are interested. I haven't gotten a response yet. What's more, the guy's profile is now disabled. I don't think he's editing it because approval only takes 24 hours. I also don't think it's expired because it was brand-new when I sent the icebreaker. So, it must be deleted. Yes, that's right, Sabrina has scared yet another man away from internet dating. When you send these icebreakers, it sends your profile along as well. So he probably went screaming for the hills. Being Illinois, he's probably still running and screaming. Oh well. Snarky Sarcastic Girl In My Head says that he was probably unemployed, living at home, with no car, very co-dependent, and probably not over his ex yet. So I'm better off without him. Phew! Dodged a bullet on THAT one.
